How many students are there in the group tutorials?
Between six and ten. All will be following the same exam board syllabus and working towards the same grades, so each tutorial is tailored to match the curriculum they are following at school and to help them achieve the best grade possible for them.
How can effectvei tutoring be delivered over the internet?
Our first step to ensuring that we are effective is to employ the best tutors we can. We select only the very best maths teachers to work with us, so all of the tutors really know what they’re doing in respect of the course content, the expectations of the exam boards, and no less importantly, managing classes of students! We then put our tutors through comprehensive training that fully prepares them to lead tutorials and manage groups via our online environment. We then equip tutors with high quality, engaging lesson materials that really bring maths lessons to life via a state of the art interactive online classroom. For many students, this approach works really well as it is similar to digital channels and tools that they regularly use to communicate, such as skype.
How do you ensure that all of the students are engaged in the session?
We have found that students attending these sessions actually want to be involved and engagement is not an issue. Each tutorial has no more than ten students involved, and all are called upon to participate throughout via their headsets, ‘chat pods’ (on-screen text dialogue exchanged between participants within the session) and through regular polls sent out by the tutor to check understanding. Independent learning is promoted through individual hands-on practice, worksheets and assessments.
What if we book a course and don’t like it?
We really believe that once tried, students will love our tutorials and parents will quickly see improvements in confidence and attainment in maths. Ho
What is covered during the sessions?
Tutorial sessions have been scheduled to match GCSE maths exam dates throughout the year, enabling students to use tutoring to bolster their studies when they most need it. Each session is part of a series of tutorials that will develop a particular set of skills, working to a closely defined scheme of work overall, just like in school.
Why is tuition in courses?
In the experience of our tutors, it is very rare that students are struggling with just one particular concept in maths. Far more frequently, difficulties are caused by a general lack of confidence that has prevented students from progressing. This can be restored, however, through revisiting and building on skills during a course of tuition. Here repetition reinforces core concepts too, which is especially important in a subject like maths, where firm foundations of principles are necessary to enable full understanding and future progression.
How can we be sure this will work?
As with all tutoring, success can only be achieved if the tutor and student are engaged and working towards common goals. Our tutors are all enthusiastic mathematicians who are committed to the success of the students in their group, which goes a long way to enabling a good outcome for the students. This, together with an inspiring, supportive environment that students are keen to return to, has led to powerful endorsements from our students to date. The vast majority said that are not only much more confident in maths, but that they feel better equipped to tackle their exams. We are proud that 100% of our students pass with A* to C grades in GCSE maths.
Do you offer a full GCSE maths course with a qualification and where do I sit exams?
No, we do not offer a full GCSE maths course so you would need to enrol onto a GCSE maths course at your local school or college. Our services offer online GCSE maths tuition to increase your chances of getting a C grade or higher. If you wish to sit an exam, you will need to contact your local college as an external candidate and speak to the exams officer so they can notify the exam centre.
What is your refunds policy?
We’re really confident in our courses, and believe we have some of the best maths teachers in the UK working with us. However, if we have not convinced you after you have tried a tutorial with us, you will be entitled to a full refund for the course you have purchased.
